NFC identification on mooring lines.

Mooring line identification with NFC.

NFC identification for Mooring LinesMore Marine recently developed a great new tool to ensure maximum protection for your superyacht.

We have found many times crew are unsure when the mooring lines were bought and what the specifications are. Older ropes lose breaking-strength and when re-ordering mooring lines it can be dangerous if a lower grade rope is being ordered resulting in possible break.

Latest NFC (Near Field Communication) technology allows smartphones to scan the mooring lines and identify all needed information. Within a second all this information pops up on the screen, providing all data to check the age of the ropes, and the needed information to order new ropes with the same properties.

Being supplier of major superyacht builders in Holland we supply new built superyachts. Together with the technicians of the yard and the customer, we specify the right ropes for the yacht.
After a few years the mooring lines will be replaced somewhere in the world. Many times this is being done without knowing the details of the specs that the yard specified, and that is where it becomes a bit tricky.
The NFC chip now is being programmed with the original data of the original ropes which makes it possible to replace the ropes with the same breaking loads and stretch aspects as the originals.

It also contains our unique articlenumber of the rope so we can trace the production batch and all information in case of any warranty issue.

NFC is a new technology that is being supported by all new smartphones*. The NFC tag is fully protected by an epoxy jacket and doesn’t contain any batteries. Simply keep your smartphone against the end of the rope and the signal of the phone is being bounced back with all data.

When finishing off the ropes we insert the NFC tag in the core and protect it with carbon filled epoxy for perfect protection and a great looking finish.

All our mooring lines are equipped with these NFC tags, being recognized by the small NFC print at the end of the rope.

* For the moment Iphone does have NFC technology but this is only being used for Apple Pay, therefore the Iphone can’t scan NFC Chips, however it is planned to add this functionality in one of the software updates.
